New Grand Jury set to be seated

SAN DIEGO – Nineteen area residents will begin serving a one-year term Monday on the county grand jury.

The panel will be led by Leonard D. Martin, 61, of Rancho San Diego, who served 35 years with the San Diego Police Department, including 11 years with the homicide division, said Karen Dalton, spokeswoman for the San Diego Superior Court.

The grand jurors, who were selected from a field of 108 applicants, are volunteers who will receive a daily stipend of $25.

The jury serves as a watchdog panel to ensure county and municipal governments are functioning efficiently and spending tax money properly.

In addition to Martin, the jurors are:

  Stephen P. Clark, retired federal attorney; Coronado
  Michael C. Cronin, retired U.S. immigration officer; Chula Vista
  Albert Deteresa, retired business owner; Oceanside
  Kenneth C. Ferrell, real estate broker; La Mesa
  Charles Hair, retired software engineer; San Diego
  Michael P. Hall, retired sales, banking; Carlsbad
  Nekita O. Hobson, retired public affairs consultant; Vista
  William. H. Koenig, retired social worker; Chula Vista
  Nathaniel Lawrence, retired deputy sheriff; San Diego
  Dean A. Leptich, retired vice president/professor; La Mesa
  Lora A. Leo, business owner; San Diego
  Francine V. McGinnis, writer, teacher; San Diego
  Charles R. Mosley, retired pipe organ architect; Chula Vista
  Robert E. O'Donnell, retired law enforcement officer; San Diego
  Randall T. Robinson, retired forensic scientist; Del Mar
  Katherine A. Smith, retired medical administrative secretary; San Diego
  David E. Vaughan, retired U.S. Army; La Mesa
